Overview

This project involved deploying a hybrid infrastructure using Azure Virtual Machines. A Windows Server 2019 domain controller and two Windows Server 2012 R2 servers were set up, alongside Windows 7 VMs connected to the domain. Multiple Virtual Networks simulated different subnets, while Azure Monitor tracked performance and generated alerts. The project showcased effective deployment, network segmentation, and proactive monitoring within a cloud environment, emphasizing the potential of Azure for modern IT solutions.

In this project, I undertook the task of deploying a robust Active Directory environment on Azure Virtual Machines, aiming to simulate a real-world network infrastructure. The project involved the deployment of a Windows Server 2019 domain controller alongside two Windows Server 2012 R2 servers, all hosted on Azure VMs. Additionally, I created two Windows 7 VMs, successfully connecting them to the domain. To enhance the simulation, I implemented multiple network subnets using Virtual Networks (VNETs) within the same Azure Resource Group. Moreover, I effectively utilized Azure Monitor to monitor system performance and establish proactive alert mechanisms.

Setting Up the Azure Environment:
The initial step was to provision the Azure Virtual Machines. I created three Windows Server instances: one running Windows Server 2019 and two others running Windows Server 2012 R2. To simulate client machines, I deployed two Windows 7 VMs. By configuring appropriate resource allocations and networking settings, I ensured optimal performance and connectivity.

Implementing Active Directory:
I established a Windows Server 2019 VM as the domain controller, orchestrating a new Active Directory forest. The domain controller's role included user authentication, group policy management, and DNS services. Subsequently, I seamlessly joined the Windows Server 2012 R2 machines to the domain, contributing to a functional multi-server environment.

Creating Virtual Networks and Subnets:
To mirror a complex networking environment, I employed Azure Virtual Networks (VNETs). I created distinct VNETs to represent separate network subnets, allowing me to simulate isolated network segments. Each VNET encompassed the necessary address space and subnets, enabling network traffic isolation while adhering to best practices in network architecture.

Leveraging Azure Monitor for Performance Monitoring:
To ensure the health and performance of the deployed infrastructure, I harnessed the capabilities of Azure Monitor. By configuring performance metrics and alerts, I proactively identified potential bottlenecks and anomalies. Critical system indicators, including CPU utilization, memory consumption, and network traffic, were tracked in real-time. Azure Monitor enabled me to set up alerts, notifying me of deviations from predefined thresholds, thus empowering prompt issue resolution and system optimization.

The successful completion of this project showcases my proficiency in orchestrating a comprehensive Active Directory environment within Azure's cloud infrastructure. Through the deployment of domain controllers, Windows servers, and client machines, I created a realistic network simulation. By incorporating multiple network subnets using VNETs and actively monitoring performance through Azure Monitor, I demonstrated the ability to architect, implement, and manage a complex IT environment. This project not only underscores my technical skills but also serves as a valuable addition to my professional portfolio, reflecting my capability to design and deploy intricate network systems in a cloud-centric landscape.
